5-Axis Machining
Bavyiew Edison operates two CMS Industries made 5-Axis milling machines to deliver Pure Value on large and small projects. The CMS Poseidon is used for large machining projects such as wind turbine rotor blades, yacht hulls and decks, aircraft wings and fuselages, etc… The CMS Ares is effective at rapidly and accurately producing the underlying structures to support the Poseidon machining operations, yacht furniture, and a range of other smaller projects.
CMS 5-axis milling machines are among the most highly regarded available. Siemens NX6 CAD, CAM and CAE software and Vericut tool path software efficiently drive the CMS machines.
The benefits of 5-axis machining are precision (even on complex geometry), speed, predictability, high availability and reliability.
CMS Poseidon
Bayview Edison’s CMS Poseidon has a machining envelope of 83’ x 27’ x 13’. This is one of the largest machining envelopes of which we are aware in the World. This benefits our customers in delivering Pure Value by:
* Minimizing joints on large patterns - Fewer joints mean less finishing issues, fewer alignment issues and reduced maintenance particularly when patterns are used as Masters to produce multiple molds and in short run “soft” production tools.
* Increased productivity – Large sections machine in less time. For smaller projects, multiple projects can be in the machining bay simultaneously reducing waste from movement and setup times.
CMS Ares
Bayview Edison’s CMS Ares benefits our customer in delivering Pure Value by:
* Supporting Poseidon Operations – Frames are quickly and cost effectively produced on the Ares for the substructure of large projects machined on the Poseidon.
* Efficient Small Projects – small projects are rapidly and precisely machined
* Rapid Changes in Cabinet Components – Bayview Edison’s Northwest Trawlers line of pleasure boats are tailored to each buyer’s preferences. Cabinet panels and trims are custom designed on the computer and accurately created on the Ares. Jobs can be done quickly, when needed, allowing for design decision to be made at the latest moment to avoid re-work.
